Film Dissolve Transition for Final Cut Pro
The "Film Dissolve" is a more pleasing variation of the default "Cross Dissolve" transition found in Final Cut Pro. This transition is already in Final Cut Pro, but requires additional steps to access, and cannot be set as the default.
With this download, you can set the "Film Dissolve" as the default transition, giving you easy access to it by pressing CMD + T
The differences are as follows
Regular Cross Dissolve:
- This is the standard transition and offers a linear blend between the two clips.
- The opacity of each clip changes at a constant rate throughout the duration of the transition.
- This creates a smooth and predictable transition that works well in most situations.
Film Dissolve:
- This transition aims to mimic the behavior of film dissolves used in traditional filmmaking.
- It uses a non-linear blend that takes into account the brightness of each clip.
- Brighter areas of the outgoing clip tend to hold onto the screen for longer than darker areas, while brighter areas of the incoming clip fade in faster.
- This can create a more organic and subtle transition, especially noticeable in scenes with high contrast.
Note : This transition isn't a perfect 1-1 replication, but does the best that I could achieve with my current abilities. As I make improvements, you will get emails with free future updates!
The "Film Dissolve" transition can be found in your Transitions Inspector under "Dissolves" alongside your other built-in dissolves.
